Hi, name's Walter Cade Gilbert, or Cade for short, I'm a Computing and information technology student at RIT, graduating 2025, with 5+ years of experience in the field, I'm always open to CO-OP, and searching for Full-Time. I'm a Project oriented self-motivated multi-discipline tech student, and I bring creative solutions to problems in-situ with efficiency, skill, and valuable experience in IT operations and customer support. In groups, I'm a team player with a proven track-record of effective work and experience with 'agile' workflow.

  • Systems Administration I and II: SCCM, Windows Server, LDAP, Kerberos, FreeIPA, Graylog, Zabbix, Apache/HTTPD, Microsoft Active Directory, User and Group management, Enterprise Network organization, Docker, K8s, Systems administration covers many bases, with numerous applicable skills covered, including the setup and maintenance of simulated enterprise topologies from router to client with authentication, cross-platform domain control and much more
  • Virtualization: Vmware suite, ESXI, Vcenter server, Workstation Pro, Vmware Fusion, Oracle Virtualbox, Docker, this course covered the high level structures of virtualization and SAAS, with low-level dives into the setup and management of a virtual infrastructure with multiple nodes and advanced failover and migration capabilities.
  • Intro, Advanced Routing and Switching: PF/OPNSense, Cisco IOS, Arista VEOS, Junos, These courses covered the structures of networks and the funciton of the TCPIP stack from bits on the wire, to routing protocols and datacenter topologies. In Advanced I and a partner constructed a simulated Spine-Leaf topologiy using VXLAN, OSPF, and VTEPs to maximize E-W traffic in a scalable topology, simulating real traffic using the GNS3 software suite, allowing comparision to alternative network topologies through relative metric comparison.
  • Network Design and Performance: The fundamentals of how and why networks perform the way they do, covering topics of efficient network design, proper monitoring, and proper provisioning for the client's use case.
  • Information Assurance and Security: Cybersecurity class focusing on methods of data breach and social engineering allowing for access to sensitive information transparently, this course covered the methods to plant surveillence software in maliciously formatted email, and how such security vulnerabilities can and should be avoided.
  • Web and Mobile I, II: HTML, CSS, PHP, JS, AJAX principles, MySQL, I am proficient in web design and frontend programming for web, as well as backend, on my own time I have also learned Node.JS for a number of personal projects.
  • Designing the User Experience: HTML, CSS, PHP, this course covered the proper methods not just to make an application for a client userbase to but to design UX and UI that facilitate friction-free use of the service, through design, color, and acessability choices.
  • Arabic I, II, III I am an intermediate to moderate-fluency Arabic speaker, and have been taking the language for over 5 years (factoring in non-collegiate education.)

Assisted in a vendor swap across campus, reconfiguration of Juniper hardware to match functionality of previous Cisco hardware, Power budgeting management, upgrading network infrastructure, Wrote a number of network scripts including one to detect unused "reclaimable" network interfaces from historical DHCP data and automated calls to network devices. Hands-on experience with disassembly and reassembly of enterprise hardware from most major companies (HPE, Cisco, HYVE, SUN, ZT Systems, IBM, QCT) and the categorization of componentry. Worked with the IT manager as an IT assistant/intern for Wilbur Cross High School. I was tasked with repair and management of school technology infrastructure. I helped manage the District's SNMP server as well as the backup Domain-Controller that our campus housed, I also assisted with user-tickets and general system maintenance around the building.

Worked with Apple ARKit and multiple visiting artists to curate and add to a data driven art installation. Utilised the Adobe creative suite and statistical software for data visualization.

ELM SHAKESPEARE, SCSU

As an assistant stage and sound tech for Elm Shakespeare, I worked 9 hour days for 6 weeks in a team of driven individuals to put on ‘A Comedy of Errors’ by Shakespere in a local park. As a member of both the sound, and stage crews, I acted as an assistant grip, worked on set construction, soundboard, audio cueing, and other odd jobs (including handling tickets and hauling). I helped with both individuals and groups, on a tight schedule and a budget during my time with Elm.

NOTE

Brief Notes 

I built my own keyboard, and programmed the micorcontroller to do so, I also built my own computer, and run a Dell R630 as my personal testbed for ESXI at home, I enjoy learning new things, and recently have found myself getting into Security hardware and software including a small fleet of axis security cameras.
